New York Giants open practice window for LB/special teamer Matthew Adams

The New York Giants have opened the 21-day practice window for linebacker/special teamer Matthew Adams to return from injured reserve. Adams was placed on IR with a designation to return on cut down day.

Adams, 28, is in his seventh NFL season. He has primarily been a special teamer, with 1,742 career special teams snaps and 605 career defensive snaps.

Linebacker Dyontae Johnson, who is on IR with an ankle injury and also has a designation to return, has not begun practicing.

It remains to be seen how quickly the Giants activate Adams from IR. They currently have Darius Muasau, Ty Summers, Patrick Johnson, Boogie Basham, Azeez Ojulari and Benton Whitley as backups on the edge or at off-ball linebacker. Basham has been inactive in all four games, and might be in the most jeopardy whenever the Giants decide to activate Adams. Summers and Johnson are recent additions to the 53-man roster.
