New York Giants predicted to land Steelers QB as bridge to draft pick | Sporting News

The New York Giants are entering a new era after benching former first-round pick Daniel Jones.

What the Giants plan to do this offseason is a massive mystery. Much of it depends on whether general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll retain their jobs, which may not be the case after another brutal season.

With that said, the Giants are going to have to do something. Jones will likely be cut, which means the Giants take on a $22.2 million dead cap hit while saving $19.3 million against the cap.

In making some very early predictions, Dan Duggan of The Athletic outlined a potential blueprint for the Giants’ offseason at the quarterback position.

“Get your bookmarks ready for future reference, here’s my super early prediction on how the Giants’ QB situation shakes out over the next six months: Justin Fields is signed as the bridge QB, they take a QB in the top 10 (too early to even guess who),” Duggan posted on X.

Duggan also put an asterisk on this prediction with the caveat that this is assuming both Schoen and Daboll will return.

It would be an interesting endeavor to see the Giants go after Fields, another former first-round pick. After failing to keep the job with the Chicago Bears, Fields found some new life as a game manager with the Pittsburgh Steelers to begin the season.

Starting the season in place of the injured Russell Wilson, Fields was under center for the first six games of the campaign. He completed 66.3% of his passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, one interception and a 93.9 passer rating. He also added 57 carries for 248 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

The Steelers were 4-2 in games that Fields started, relying mostly on Arthur Smith’s ground attack and Mike Tomlin’s defensive prowess.

Fields could fit the type of mold that Daboll is looking for in a quarterback. He’s had success with Jones as a dual-threat option, but both he and Fields have failed to take their abilities as passers to the next level.

The options in the 2025 NFL draft likely include Miami’s Cam Ward, Colorado’s Shaduer Sanders, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and Georgia’s Carson Beck, to name a few.

This should be another active offseason for the Giants regardless of what happens with this regime as the Giants usher in a new era under center.
