New York High School Basketball Rankings: On3 Composite Top 25 Teams – Dec. 6
The latest New York high school basketball season is underway. While hundreds of teams will compete across the state, the best teams based on the New York On3 Composite Ranking will gain the most attention. Here is how the list unfolded after the first round of games, with three teams entering the nationwide top 100.
The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.
While they lost to Brewster Academy National in the Sunshine Classic, the top New York high school basketball team won their first two games. They defeated St. Joseph’s in their season opener on Nov. 30 and achieved the same result against Chaminade three days later.
Against the Flyers, five Crusaders players scored in double digits, with Nigel James leading the way with 21 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Dylan and Kayden Mingo had 16 and 15 points, respectively. Long Island Lutheran will try to bounce back against Montverde Academy on Dec. 7.
After losing their season opener against St. Frances Academy by one point (59-58), they bounced back by dominating Cardinal Hayes 69-56. Adonis Ratliff led the way with 16 points, 11 rebounds, ten blocks, and four steals. Hassan Koureissi added 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Archbishop Stepinac will aim for a winning streak when they face St. Raymond for Boys on Dec. 9.
The Ravens earned convincing victories against Pace Academy and DeSoto. A 29-point third-quarter explosion against DeSoto helped St. Raymond remain perfect to begin the 2024-25 season. The Ravens will try to stay undefeated against St. Peter’s on Dec. 8.
After losing to Iona Prep, the Kingsman dropped another Philadelphia’s Neumann-Goretti. While Nazareth limited their opponents to nine points in the second quarter, the Saints pulled off the win via a 17-7 explosion in overtime. Despite those losses, the Kingsman remained among New York high school basketball’s best teams.
The Lions finished the 2023-24 New York high school basketball season with a 22-6 record. They also finished second in their league with a 12-3 record. Christ the King will open their season against Monsignor Scanlan on Dec. 8.
After defeating Adlai Stevenson in their season opener, the Terriers earned their seventh consecutive home victory by dominating Bishop Loughlin 94-52. St. Francis Prep will try to go 3-0 against Christ the King in a game that the On3 Massey Rankings predict to be a close match.
The Cardinals have split their first two games. After a one-sided 43-point win against St. Dominic, they dropped a 69-56 decision against Archbishop Stepinac. Cardinal Hayes will try to regain the winning track against Holy Cross on Dec. 10.
The Gaels defeated Fordham Prep 66-49. Johnny Keenan tallied 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists in that game, earning him Catholic High Schools Athletic Association Class AA Player of the Week honors. Iona Prep will face Monsignor Scanlan on Dec. 10.
Brooklyn College finished their 2023-24 New York high school basketball season with a 16-3 record, including a 12-1 record in the PSAL Brooklyn 1 League. They will start their upcoming campaign against Wingate on Dec. 10.
After dropping their season opener to Curtis, St. Peter’s bounced back with a 71-53 victory over Moore Catholic. Talib Martin had a breakout game for the Eagles with 23 points, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. St. Peters will try to secure their first winning streak this season against St. Raymond for Boys on Dec. 8.
