New York Jets’ Aaron Rodgers trails former teammate in NFL MVP odds | Sporting News

It’s happened before and it’s not out of possibility’s realm to happen again.

New York Jets‘ quarterback Aaron Rodgers has earned four career MVP awards, two of which came with Nathaniel Hackett as his offensive coordinator. Although the 40-year-old Rodgers is a Top 10 betting favorite to win the 2024 NFL MVP, he ranks behind his Green Bay Packers‘ replacement on the odds board.

In the latest futures odds from DraftKings Sportsbook, Rodgers is +1600 (16:1) to win his fifth career MVP. He is tied with Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback Jalen Hurts as the eighth most-likely winner. Meanwhile, Packers’ new franchise field general Jordan Love, who took over the starting job after Rodgers was dealt to New York, is tied for the fifth-best MVP odds at +1400 (14:1). Reigning MVP Lamar Jackson (Ravens) and San Francisco 49ers’ signal caller Brock Purdy are also listed at +1400.

Kansas City Chiefs‘ superstar Patrick Mahomes is the clear preseason favorite with +450 (9:2) odds. Josh Allen (Bills) and CJ Stroud (Texans) are next at +850. Cincinnati Bengals‘ QB Joe Burrow stands at 9-to-1.

Should Rodgers capture the NFL MVP award, he’ll become the first Jet ever to achieve the feat. The stage is set for the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback to play the role of hero for a franchise that has not played past the regular season since 2010.

Even without gaudy numbers, Rodgers can make a case for the Most Valuable Player title if he’s able to revive a bottom-ranked offense while ending the Jets’ postseason drought.
