New York Jets: Jets ranked #4 overall team by PFF
Last season was really the story of two seasons for the New York Jets.
The first season was the Aaron Rodgers season, which was filled with hope and optimism that the future Hall of Fame quarterback would turn around this seemingly snakebitten franchise. That season lasted all of four offensive snaps.
The second season was the post-Aaron Rodgers season, which was marked by a Jets’ offense that regularly looked outmatched and would lead the Jets to a bottom 10 record despite having a great defense. That season lasted for four months or so.
2024 is a new season. Hopefully the 2024 season will feature far more plus quarterback play than 2023. If that happens, then the ceiling is simply sky high given that the Jets already feature one of the league’s best defenses.
Specifically, their top 5 rankings went as follows:
The 49ers and Chiefs played in last year’s Super Bowl. The Eagles played in the Super Bowl in the year prior. The Ravens had the best record in football last season. Clearly, this is great company for the Jets to be in from a roster perspective.
In their summary paragraph on the Jets’ outlook, authors Jim Wyman and Dalton Wasserman echo what many have said around the Gang Green Nation website in recent months, writing:
If the offensive line improves and Aaron Rodgers is healthy, the Jets are an extremely talented team. The additions of Corley and ex-Charger Mike Williams should complement Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson quite well. They don’t need their offense to be elite. They need it to be functional. They already have arguably the best defense in the NFL. As was the case last year, any scenario where they miss the postseason is a disappointment.
Long story short, the biggest holdup for the Jets this season might simply be the ability to stay healthy. Needless to say, that’s a far cry from past Jets teams that didn’t seem to stand a chance even if they were healthy. Now they just have to make good on all the promise.
