New York news station left red-faced after wrongly airing ‘Knicks advance’ graphic after team was eliminated from playoffs

  • The Pacers eliminated the Knicks moments before the graphic was live on air
  • The network’s anchors got the information right despite the graphic

A New York news station wrongly aired a graphic that read ‘Knicks advance’ after the team’s embarrassing blowout loss at Madison Square Garden to the Indiana Pacers.

New York City‘s NBC affiliate went live after the team’s Game 7 defeat to show the wrong result on air, one that looked like a longshot for most of Sunday’s game.

Both on-air anchors shown immediately after the graphic made it onto the air correctly stated the Knicks were eliminated from the postseason.

The men likely saw the view for their audience and wanted to make sure there was as little confusion as possible, mentioning multiple times how New York had no more games left this season.

The only confusion might have existed to viewers watching the telecast on mute who did not see the game, then found out another way about the flub.

The network has not commented on the graphic being wrong, even with their studios being less than 20 blocks from the Garden.

Indiana defeated New York 130-109 on Sunday afternoon in a game where the Knicks trailed by double digits for a heavy majority of the contest.

The loss marked the Knicks third straight trip to the conference semifinals to end with a series loss.

A victory for New York would have clinched the team’s first conference finals appearance since 2000 when Latrell Sprewell was at the core of the team.

Luckily for NBC’s New York affiliate, it has a graphic ready to go when that triumph happens.
