New York State Snow Warning: Lake Effect Snow Expected Today with Major Impacts on Travel

Buffalo, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. today for several New York counties, including Wayne, Oswego, and Lewis. Heavy snowfall and gusting winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall accumulations could reach 10 inches in areas with the most persistent snow bands. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will lead to blowing snow, reducing visibility on major roadways like Interstate 81 and NY-104. Officials urge residents to delay unnecessary travel and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Wayne County is bracing for 4 to 8 inches of additional snow, with the heaviest accumulation forecasted for the northeastern parts of the county. In Oswego and Lewis counties, deeper snow cover and drifting will likely impact smaller state routes and secondary roads.
Meteorologists warn that conditions can vary dramatically over short distances. Drivers should carry emergency kits, check local traffic updates, and submit snow reports to the National Weather Service through social media or its website.
This system is expected to taper off Monday morning, but additional snow showers remain in the forecast. Residents should monitor local updates for further advisories and changing conditions.
