New York Times technology columnist to deliver 2024 Sutton Lecture at KU School of Business

Kevin Roose

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Business Walter S. Sutton Ethics Lecture Series will feature Kevin Roose, a technology columnist for The New York Times and bestselling author, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.

The lecture, which will be in the Dicus Family Auditorium, 1111 Capitol Federal Hall, is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Roose, an award-winning columnist, writes about technology and its effects on society for The New York Times. He will present “Business Ethics in the Age of AI,” discussing how artificial intelligence transforms industries at rapid rates and reshapes how people work and live.

His interests range across automation and artificial intelligence, social media, disinformation and cybersecurity, and digital wellness. His column at The New York Times, “The Shift,” looks at technology, business and culture and how they overlap in today’s society.

Roose is the host of two New York Times podcasts, “Hard Fork” and “Rabbit Hole,” and is a recurring guest on “The Daily” podcast. He has written three books: “Futureproof,” a guide to surviving technology in the future; “Young Money,” a book chronicling Wall Street junior bankers after the 2008 financial crisis, and “The Unlikely Disciple,” a memoir.

The Sutton Ethics Lecture Series is held in memory of Walter Sutton, a 1939 School of Business alumnus. Before his death in 1985, he devoted much of his time to civic organizations. This KU School of Business lecture series highlights the importance of ethics and value systems in business.
