The ICC T20 World Cup preparations are in full swing in the United States and a new stadium with a capacity of 34,000 seats recently popped up in New York. T20 World Cup 2024 Ambassador Usain Bolt got a first look at the venue recently. The venue, which is about 25 miles east of New York City, was officially launched by the Jamaican athlete earlier this week on Wednesday. The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium is the official name of the new one-of-a-kind venue. A user on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) shared a clip of the finished stadium, providing a glimpse of the stands, the cricket pitch and a giant ball in the middle of the ground. “Wickets just shifting from Adelaide and the stadium just got built like two months, fits 34,000 people for the World Cup starts two weeks. Many reacted to the construction of the new modular stadium in the comments section. One of them talked about how cricket is soon going to be a major sport in the United States. “Cricket is definitely going to be big in the United States”, he wrote.

Another said the cricket pitch looked perfect for the upcoming ICC mega event. He wrote, “It’s looking very good. Massive event incoming, let’s hope America gets behind it!”

One social media user seemed to have doubts about the permanency of the new venue as he said, “Wow 34k capacity is good. But I don’t think this will be a permanent Cricket venue in the future.”

Another cricket fan highlighted how the stadium had exceeded his expectations. “This looks better than I expected, I was honestly expecting a mess”, he wrote.

Only three months ago, Eisenhower Park in upstate New York was a conventional local park. With the USA set to host the upcoming T20 World Cup, the park was converted into a 34,000 seater with a world-class pitch that was grown 1200 miles away in Florida. The stadium will feature multiple tiers of seating options ranging from premium and general admission to VIP and hospitality suites. The Nassau County Cricket Stadium will also house a unique party deck and cabanas.

The prime objective behind the construction of this new stadium was sustainability. The grandstands featuring in the new cricket venue had been previously used for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. This ambitious project was designed by a group called Populous. They are famous for creating the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium will host eight matches at the T20 World Cup. The highly-anticipated fixture between India and Pakistan will be hosted at this venue.
