NFL Draft analyst delivers firm stance on who should be No. 1 pick to Giants

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller was adamant that the New York Giants should select Shedeur Sanders with the No. 1 overall pick in April.

The Colorado quarterback is one of the most talked-about prospects at the top of the draft, along with teammate Travis Hunter. Cam Ward would be the other QB option at the top, but Miller opted for Sanders to go to the Giants as New York looks to hit the reset button.

Sanders put up career numbers in 2024 and has one more game to go with the Alamo Bowl against BYU.

“It has to be Shedeur Sanders if you’re the New York Giants,” Miller said on SportsCenter. “We’ve seen a parade of bad quarterback play from them this year. The great thing about Shedeur is he’s been in that spotlight his entire life as the son of Deion Sanders

“We talk about, can guys handle the New York media market? Yeah, he’s been handling it his entire life, not to mention what he does on the field. He’s surgical as a passer, he’s tough, he’s accurate, he’s smart, he’s a great point guard at the next level. That’s exactly what the New York Giants need with the number one wide receiver Malik Nabers already there.”

Shedeur Sanders to the New York Giants?

Colorado offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur claimed fans would not appreciate Sanders until he leaves the school. The latter part is imminent.

“Well, I’ve already told all 32 teams multiple times probably what I would tell you, but most players that make it in the NFL obviously have great skill and ability, which Shedeur has, have performed at a high level, which he does, has a true love for the game, which he has. Then he’s going to be an outstanding teammate. Really those are the four cornerstones with what makes a great pro,” Shurmur said, regarding what he’ll tell NFL teams about the quarterback.

“You have to have talent. You have to perform. You’ve got to love the game. That’s where a lot of times guys fall short. They don’t love the game. Then you have to be — it’s the greatest team sport in the world, so you have to have an appreciation for being a good teammate, whether you are a leader, follower, whatever.”

After moving on from former first round pick Daniel Jones, it would appear the Giants are in major need of a quarterback. Sanders might just fit the bill to usher in a positive, new era.
