NFL insider could see Giants in market to sign rival quarterback | Sporting News

The upcoming campaign is going to be a vital one for the direction of the New York Giants.

Specifically, all eyes will be on the performance of quarterback Daniel Jones, who is coming off a disastrous 2023 season that ended with a torn ACL.

Despite being in the second of a four-year contract extension, there’s an out for the Giants after the 2024 season. Thus, the Giants could again be in the quarterback market if things go poorly.

As such, ESPN’s Dan Graziano believes the Giants could be among the teams in the market to court rival quarterback and Dallas Cowboys starter Dak Prescott.

A partial list of teams that could be looking for new starting quarterbacks next spring includes the Raiders, Giants, Jets, Saints, Steelers, Titans, Rams and Seahawks. There would absolutely be a market for Prescott — who led the NFL in touchdown passes in 2023 with 36 — if he is available.

Graziano ultimately believes Prescott and the Cowboys will come to an agreement on a new deal. However, there’s still a world where Prescott hits free agency in 2025.

If he does, and the Giants decide they are out on Jones as the future quarterback, the front office will have to consider signing Prescott in free agency.

The contract would be massive. It would most likely come in the $50-55 million range annually. That’s a steep price to pay for a quarterback who has struggled in the big moments come playoff time.

But there’s no doubt he would be an immediate upgrade over what the Giants currently have. It’s also a matter of where the Giants will be selecting from in the 2025 NFL Draft.

If they’re not in a position to take a quarterback next April, another difficult decision must be made.

All of this will be a moot point if Prescott signs a new deal but if he doesn’t, it certainly will be worth monitoring.
