NFL insider offers cryptic explanation of Rodgers’ NY Jets minicamp absence

NFL insider Albert Breer has taken the mystery around Aaron Rodgers’ whereabouts to another level.

The Sports Illustrated reporter offered a cryptic answer when asked where the New York Jets star, 40, was having skipped the team’s mandatory two-day minicamp this week.

Breer, 44, discussed Rodgers‘ absence in a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

And while he seemingly knew the reason behind the four-time NFL MVP’s disappearance, the insider hardly made the situation any clearer.

“The best I can answer this right now that I feel solid about,” Breer said.

“Is that he is somewhere that they could not excuse and maintain credibility with the rest of the locker room, but would be expected, would not be an out-of-left-field thing for him.

“So you guys can open your mind, so to speak, as he’s been known to open his mind sometimes, into all the possibilities that might create.”

Breer said that Jets head coach Robert Salah, his staff, and New York’s front office had been “apprised” of Rodgers’ upcoming absence.

The insider added that the 10-time Pro Bowler has been a “very engaged member of the offseason program,” being a lot more involved than he was during his last year with the Green Bay Packers.

The report comes after Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd said that the QB was vacationing outside the US.

“Why BS? An event?” Cowherd said.

“I was told last night, from a source I trust, Aaron’s on vacation, and it’s overseas.

“Don’t be surprised. This is sort of what you would expect.

“Impulsive owner, new GM, coach with a losing record, prickly, older, at times arrogant, disconnected quarterback, in New York City, with a pretty relentless and inarguably massive press core.”

On Tuesday, Salah said that Rodgers skipped the minicamp because of an event that was “important to him.”

“Aaron and I spoke before OTAs started,” Saleh said.

“He’s been very good with communication.

“He’s been here the entire time. It’s inexcused, but he had an event that was very important to him — which he communicated.”

Salah confirmed Rodgers’ absence was “unexcused,” meaning it could be subject to a fine.

Rodgers was traded to the Jets in April 2023 alongside Green Bay’s first and fifth-round 2023 draft picks in exchange for New York’s first, second, and sixth-rounders.

He missed most of the 2023 season with an Achilles tear, which he suffered four plays into his Jets debut.

The veteran quarterback entered the offseason OTAs without any limitations.
