There aren’t many analysts or projections banking on the New York Giants returning to the playoffs in 2024.

Despite reaching the divisional round of the playoffs in the first season under head coach Brian Daboll in 2022, most believe the Giants will repeat the dreadful performance from the 2023 campaign.

However, a few key offseason acquisitions, specifically trading for edge rusher Brian Burns, has Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated a bit more bullish on the Giants’ chances to surprise.

Now content, and signed long term to play opposite Kayvon Thibodeaux and alongside Dexter Lawrence, I’d expect a big year from Burns. Add him to what the Giants believe will be a really good rookie class, and Brian Daboll’s crew could leap right back into contention in the fall.

Adding Burns to a defensive line that already featured Lawrence and Thibodeaux was arguably the best move general manager Joe Schoen made this offseason.

The former first-round pick has been one of the most consistent pass-rushers in the NFL since entering the league, and the Giants didn’t have to give up much outside for a five-year deal worth $150 million.

Given how vital pass-rushers are to success in the NFL, that’s an expected price to pay for an electric talent coming off the edge.

The Giants will need a lot to bounce their way in 2024, especially when it comes to health, but this roster has the potential to match the production from Daboll’s first year at the helm.

At least, they should be much more competitive than they were when they earned the No. 6 pick last year.
