NFL Rumors: Adoree’ Jackson, Giants Discussing Contract Before Week 1 of 2024 Season

The New York Giants are reportedly engaging in contract talks with cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who spent the past three seasons with the organization.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants brought Jackson in for a physical Friday, and contract talks have begun. While no deal was done as of Friday morning, “the two sides are very interested.”

Jackson, 28, became a free agent at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign and went unsigned throughout the offseason.

Originally a first-round pick by the Tennessee Titans out of USC in 2018, Jackson spent his first four NFL seasons in Tennessee before signing a three-year, $39 million contract with the Giants.

Jackson has just four career interceptions over 83 regular-season games with his most productive campaign coming back in 2019 when he set career highs with 73 tackles and two picks.

During his tenure in New York, Jackson started 36 of the 37 games he appeared in, recording 23 passes defended and two interceptions.

Last season, Jackson made 14 starts for a G-Men team that struggled to a 6-11 record, registering 63 tackles, eight pass breakups and one pick, which was returned for a touchdown.

It should also be noted that Jackson has spent significant time as a kick and punt returner during his NFL career, averaging 22.3 yards per kick return and 8.4 yards per punt return, but he was not used at all in that role last season.

After letting Jackson hit free agency, the Giants didn’t do a ton to address their cornerback situation during the offseason.

They did use a third-round pick on slot corner Dru Phillips, who appears primed to start alongside 2022 fourth-round pick Cor’Dale Flott and 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks, who are the primary outside corners.

However, SI.com’s Patricia Traina (h/t CBS Sports) reported last week that Flott was week-to-week with quad injury, calling into question his availability for the start of the regular season.

Given that situation, signing Jackson would make a ton of sense due to his familiarity with the organization.

New York will get its 2024 regular season started on Sept. 8 with a home game against the Minnesota Vikings.
