NFL Rumors: Robert Saleh Was Escorted Out of Jets Facility by Security After Firing

After New York Jets owner Woody Johnson fired head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday morning, Saleh was reportedly assisted in his exit by team personnel.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Saleh “was escorted out of the building by the team’s director of security” after Johnson informed him of his decision. NFL insider Jordan Schultz confirmed Florio’s report.

However, SNY’s Connor Hughes reported that “multiple sources” told him Saleh was not escorted out of the facility by team security.

Florio noted that Saleh’s predecessor, Adam Gase, didn’t receive the same treatment when he was fired after the 2020 season.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that Saleh was “stunned” by Johnson’s decision, as he showed up to the team’s facility on Tuesday thinking it was business as usual as preparations began for a Monday Night Football matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Johnson said in a statement that he made the decision because he felt the Jets “are not where we should be given our expectations.”

The Jets fell to 2-3 on Sunday with a 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London, dropping Saleh’s record during his three-and-a-half-year tenure to 20-36. New York’s offense has looked disjointed over the past two losses to the Vikings and the Denver Broncos, but offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will not be fired at this time, per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was promoted to interim head coach following Saleh’s firing. While The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt reported that Ulbrich is “beloved by the entire Jets roster and staff,” it remains to be seen if the first-time head coach will be able to fix New York’s issues on offense.

Johnson is certainly hoping that his decision will pay off, as the Jets have the chance to move into first place in the AFC East with a win over the Bills on Monday.
