Not even history has answer for what New York Jets did in loss to Patriots | Sporting News

The New York Jets literally found a new way to lose against the New England Patriots in Week 8.

Looking to avoid a fifth consecutive loss, the Jets played turnover-free football for 60 minutes. In addition to not giving any freebies to the Patriots, New York limited its opponent to than 250 yards of total offense. Both achievements naturally increase a team’s chance of winning the contest.

Although it wasn’t stellar, the Jets’ offense appeared to do enough to win the game, too. The Aaron Rodgers-led attack scored 22 points, including a go-ahead fourth-quarter touchdown with 3:00 remaining.

Prior to the Jets’ October 27 effort, there were 750 NFL games where a team did not commit a turnover, scored at least 20 points and surrendered fewer than 250 yards. That team won the game all 750 times. New York, however, defied the odds by suffering a 25-22 loss to New England.

The information was shared and highlighted by ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky. The former NFL quarterback posted the stunning fact on the social media site now known as X.

Although it was theoretically enough to win, Rodgers was not satisfied with the offensive effort against the Patriots.

“Offensively, our goal has just got to be to score 30,” said Rodgers. “Doesn’t matter what the other two sides are doing. We have trust in our defense and teams, but if we’re not scoring 30, we’re underachieving. This offense can do that every single week.”

For the season, the Jets (2-6) rank 25th in scoring offense (18.8). Their defense ranks fourth overall in yards per game allowed (286.9). Although New York owns the second-ranked pass defense, it rarely takes the ball away. The Jets have the 28th-lowest interception rate (0.89%) on the circuit.
