Notes & Stats: Giants vs. Ravens Recap

*The Giants sacked Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson twice and backup Josh Johnson once. The three sacks were the Giants’ highest total since they had four at Pittsburgh on Oct. 28.

*Brian Burns had the first sack of Jackson and raised his season total to 8.0, one behind team leader Dexter Lawrence, who is on injured reserve. Burns has at least 7.5 sacks in each of his six NFL seasons and at least 8.0 in each of the last five.

*Dane Belton, who played the entire game at safety in place of the injured Tyler Nubin, recorded his first sack of the season, a 5-yard takedown of Johnson, and the second of his career. Belton had a 14-yard sack in the 2023 season finale against Philadelphia.

Belton led the Giants with a career-high 14 tackles – eight more than his previous best – and knocked down what would have been a long Jackson touchdown pass to Rashod Bateman.

*Linebacker Micah McFadden had the Giants’ third sack, his career-high third of the season. McFadden made 11 tackles (seven solo).

*Jackson threw five touchdown passes, the first quarterback to do that against the Giants since Cam Newton on Dec. 20, 2015.

*Jackson completed his first eight passes and hit 21 of 25 throws for 290 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 154.6.

*Bateman caught touchdown passes of 49 and 20 yards, both in the second quarter. He joins Cleveland’s Amari Cooper and Washington’s Terry McLaurin as Giants opponents with two touchdown catches in a game this season.

*Bateman’s 49-yard touchdown reception was the second-longest pass, third-longest touchdown, and fourth-longest offensive play allowed by the Giants this season. Tampa Bay’s Bucky Irving had a 56-yard non-scoring run three weeks ago. Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley scored on a 55-yard run on Oct. 20, and Dallas’ Dak Prescott threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb on Sept. 26.

*On the game’s second play, cornerback Adoree’ Jackson forced and recovered a fumble by Jackson after the quarterback ran for a 15-yard gain to the Giants’ 12-yard line. It was the Giants’ second takeaway on an opponent’s opening offensive possession this season. On Sept. 8, rookie corner Dru Phillips forced a fumble by Minnesota running back C.J. Ham after an 8-yard reception and the ball was recovered by Bobby Okereke.

The forced fumble was the sixth of Jackson’s career and his first since Dec. 31, 2023, against the Rams. Jackson recovered the fifth fumble of his career and first since Oct. 30, 2022, in Seattle.

*Cornerback Dee Williams returned a kickoff 23 yards in his Giants debut.

*Greg Stroman started at cornerback, his first start of the season and sixth of his seven-year career. He had six tackles (five solo).

*The Giants today used their seventh different starting offensive line combination of the season and their sixth in the last eight games. The same five linemen started each of the first six games. The left side of that line – tackle Andrew Thomas and guard Jon Runyan, Jr. – are on injured reserve.

*Jermaine Eluemunor returned to the starting lineup at left tackle after missing the previous two games with a quad injury.

*Aaron Stinnie made his first start of the season in place of left guard Jon Runyan, Jr., who was placed on injured reserve yesterday with an ankle injury he suffered last week vs. New Orleans. It was Stinnie’s 18^th career start (including five in the postseason) and first since he started the final 13 games for the 2023 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the last two in the playoffs.

*Baltimore was the first team to score more than 30 points against the Giants since Philadelphia in a 33-25 Christmas Day victory last year, and the first to do so in MetLife Stadium since Dallas in a 40-0 triumph on Sept. 10, 2023.

*The Giants lost their ninth consecutive game since winning in Seattle on Oct. 6. That ties the franchise’s single season record set in 2019.

*The Giants fell to 0-8 in MetLife Stadium, the first time in their history they’ve lost eight games at home in a season. The Giants’ final home game is against Indianapolis on Dec. 28 or 29. Only one Giants team (1974) has gone winless at home and that was 0-7 in a 14-game season.

*The Giants’ inactive players included six who have made a combined 51 starts this season, three of them cornerbacks with 25 total starts: Tae Banks (rib, 11 starts), Cor’Dale Flott (quad, nine starts) and Dru Phillips (shoulder, five starts). Also inactive were linebacker Bobby Okereke (back, 12 starts), defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches (neck/shoulder, 12 starts) and third quarterback Drew Lock (heel/elbow, two starts).
