One of the biggest names in New York bagels is coming to N.J. Here’s what we know.
New Jersey has better bagels than New York — this is well-established. But the Garden State will still gladly welcome one of the city’s top bagel spots.
Apollo Bagels, a bagel shop that opened in Manhattan earlier this year to much acclaim, is planning a new outpost across the river in Hoboken, an Apollo Bagels spokesperson told NJ Advance Media last week. No location or opening date has been set.

The bagel shop started as an extension of Leo, a popular Williamsburg sourdough pizzeria, and eventually moved on to pop-ups across the city and beyond — even serving bagels across the Atlantic in Paris. Apollo Bagels eventually opened brick-and-mortar locations in both the East and West Village.
Apollo Bagels offers a simple, scaled-down menu — a far cry from some of the outlandish bagels you’ll find across the Garden State. They serve sourdough bagels with a crunchy crust that come in plain, sesame and everything varieties. Apollo also serve open-faced bagel sandwiches with lox, white fish salad and other toppings. There are routinely hour-long lines at the shop, which The New York Times deemed to serve one of the best bagels in New York.
When Apollo Bagels comes to Hoboken, it will be in good company. The Mile Square City is one of the better bagels towns in New Jersey — O’Bagel came in at No. 6 on NJ.com’s list of the 51 best bagel ships in New Jersey.
