One Rookie Wide Receiver That Will Be a Fantasy Football Steal in 2024

The 2024 NFL preseason is officially underway, giving football fans a chance to finally see their favorite teams and players in action. While preseason is about finalizing rosters and position battles for teams, for fans, it can be about finding the best picks for the upcoming fantasy football season.

While preseason is a great way to see your potential fantasy picks in action, training camp is sometimes even better to see how they’re fitting in with their new team. And right now, there may be no bigger excitement than New York Giants rookie first-round pick Malik Nabers.

Nabers, the 6-foot, 200-pound wide receiver who was selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 draft, has made an instant name for himself at Giants training camp. After securing 89 catches for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns in his junior season at LSU, he entered camp with a real shot at securing the Giants’ WR1 spot — and it seems like he’s doing just that.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan watched Nabers at practice this week and revealed just how dominant he’s been.

“It’s hard to be at a Giants practice and not notice Malik Nabers,” Raanan wrote. “The rookie wide receiver is dominating, even during the past two days against the Detroit Lions. In total, Nabers was targeted 18 times in live drills (11-on-11 vs. 7-on-7) over the two practices. He caught 17 of those, including another long pass down the left sideline when he jumped over the defender for a touchdown.”

Nabers getting 18 targets in live scrimmages is exactly what fantasy owners would want to hear. His bringing down 17 of them including a touchdown is just the cherry on top. Giants head coach Brian Daboll’s words on Nabers should have fantasy owners sprinting to draft him.

“Competitive. Knows what to do. Been playing at a high level in practice,” Daboll said. “I have a lot of confidence in Malik.”

Nabers is already listed as a starter on the Giants’ unofficial depth chart, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him emerge as the team’s WR1 early in the season. Last year, the Giants’ top receiver was Darius Slayton, who had just 770 receiving yards across all 17 games. Their second-highest receiver in terms of yards was tight end Darren Waller, who announced his retirement this offseason.

The Giants spent a top-six pick on Nabers because they expected him to come in and make an immediate impact on their offense. Thus, he should make an immediate impact in fantasy football, too.
