Paris Olympics 2024 live day two updates
For 18 French Opens, the sight of blue skies above and Rafael Nadal across the net has largely spelled doom for tennis players at Roland Garros.
The 14-time winner’s already horrendous draw against eventual finalist Alexander Zverev at this year’s tournament was made worse by cloudy, heavy conditions in Paris, lessening the spit of Nadal’s groundstrokes and giving Zverev more time to unload his longer levers. Still, the three sets were tight, about as close as a 0-3 defeat can get.
The sun is out today, and Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, though a solid and at times powerful opponent, is not the world No 4. A few feathery dropshots aside, he was completely outclassed by Nadal in the first set, who has used the contrast between his revving forehand and flat, sharply angled backhand to outmanoeuvre his opponent.
But after a 6-1 drubbing, the Hungarian has shown a little more solidity in the second set, breaking Nadal’s serve after a long game to move ahead 2-0.
