Patriots may have the new Tom Brady, as incredible Drake Maye footage emerges
Tom Brady is the undisputed best quarterback of all time.
But at some point, New England must officially move on from the NFL legend who won seven Super Bowls — including six with the Patriots and Bill Belichick — and defined a two-decade dynasty.
Drake Maye has a ton to prove, and being the No. 3 overall pick in the recent draft places an immediate spotlight on the rookie QB from North Carolina.
Early hope for Maye arrived via the New York Giants, as the latest episode of Hard Knocks revealed a fascinating glimpse at the rookie’s football IQ.
“He’s … creative as a playmaker and being able to extend and buy time and still make plays,” NFL Network Daniel Jeremiah exclusively told talkSPORT ahead of the Draft in April.
As the Giants went through the pre-draft process, Maye met with head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.
Some rookie quarterbacks struggle with the intricacy of NFL offenses and take years to feel comfortable.
Maye sounded like a Pro Bowl veteran, running through a diagram and immediately impressing the Giants during a time when New York was actively looking for a new QB in the draft and admitting that not even Patrick Mahomes could win with the team.
“Gun Dolphin Right 72 Tundra Float H Angle” was spoken to Maye as NFL decision makers closely studied his actions.
Maye repeated the words while writing on a board.
“Tundra stands for what?” Daboll asked the rookie.
“Two unders,” Maye said.
Daboll stroked his beard while connecting with a QB the Giants were increasingly interested in.
“Easy stuff,” Maye confidently said.
Fans thought the same.
“Yeah Daniel Jones is NOT their guy,” one fan tweeted.
“I’m pretty sure if the Patriots didn’t pick up Drake the Giants were all in on Maye,” a second fan posted.
“When it’s all said and done Maye will have a better career than Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels,” a third fan wrote.
While the Giants were interested, the Patriots pounced.
After Belichick wasted time with everyone from Cam Newton to Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones in New England’s post-Brady world, the 2024 Pats took Maye with the No. 3 pick.
The Giants drafted LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6 but had been interested in trading up for a quarterback in a class loaded with talent
As training camp approaches, Patriots fans are hoping new head coach Jerod Mayo will move New England into a new era.
And while Brady wasn’t drafted until the 199th pick in the sixth round, the No. 3 selection in 2024 might have a big rookie advantage when it comes to NFL IQ.
For all of the pre-draft questions about Maye, he clearly impressed the QB-needy Giants.
