PFF expects ‘ton of rookie contributions’ from Giants’ draft class | Sporting News

The New York Giants opted against taking a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, instead focusing on adding depth to several skill positions.

With several spots on the depth chart open for the taking, the Giants’ six-player draft class has a chance to make an immediate impact.

In the eyes of Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus, the Giants should expect contributions from the rookie class early and often.

On the offensive side of the ball, the additions of wide receiver Malik Nabers, tight end Theo Johnson and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. could pay dividends early on.

Offensively, Malik Nabers, the FBS leader in receiving grade in 2023, will immediately step in as their top threat. Fourth-rounder Theo Johnson is a size-speed weapon at tight end who was underutilized at Penn State. If Darren Waller retires this offseason, Johnson could push for the starting job with a good training camp showing. Former Purdue running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. could also compete for touches in a running back room that is thin behind Devin Singletary.

Nabers should roll right in as the alpha in the wide receiver room. His presence should open things up for Jalin Hyatt, Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton as well.

Johnson has all the tools to be a long-term option for the Giants at tight end even if he’s still a work-in-progress. The Darren Waller decision will have a massive impact on how much Johnson sees the field during his rookie campaign.

Tracy won’t have a role as a starter unless an injury befalls Singletary, who signed with the team in free agency. But there’s a wide-open battle for the RB2 role.

Defensively, the Giants added two potential starters in the secondary on Day 2 in the forms of safety Tyler Nubin and cornerback Andru Phillips. They wrapped up the draft with a selection of linebacker Daniel Muasau, who should be a special teamer immediately.

New York’s top defensive picks, Tyler Nubin and Andru Phillips, could both start immediately. Nubin, especially, fills a massive void left at safety after the departure of Xavier McKinney. The Giants needed a haul of potential starters in this draft, and they very well may have gotten it.

The Giants have a long way to go and will have a tough battle in the NFC East, but they should get some early contributions from the 2024 class.
