PIX11 staff picks: Favorite ice cream spots in NYC, NJ

NEW YORK (PIX11) — With summer officially underway, there’s nothing better than treating yourself to a scoop of cool, delicious ice cream on a hot day.

From chains like Venchi to smaller local stops like Eddie’s Sweet Shop in Forest Hills, there’s no shortage of places to visit.

To help you select from the abundance of ice cream shops in New York City, PIX11 staff have shared their favorite places to go for ice cream.

PIX11 staff picks: Ice cream in NYC

Anthony DiLorenzo: Cookies and cream at Morgernstern’s Finest Ice Cream.

Arrianee LeBeau: I’m a fan of the gelato at Anita La Mamma del Gelato and Van Leeuwen for a regular scoop.

Chris Cimino: My Mother’s Place in Ozone Park and My Mother’s Place 2 on Cross Bay Boulevard in Queens make great Italian ice and a blend of crème ice and ice cream — a great variety of flavors.

Cory McGinnis: Brown Butter Creamery in Brooklyn!

Greg Mocker: I like to walk to the Key Food or Associated Supermarket and stand in front of the refrigerated section at the market. Choose some chocolate ice cream and enjoy it at home.

James Ford: Sugar Hill Creamery in Harlem has the best ice cream in the city — hands down. They make it daily right there, with new, completely unorthodox, addictive flavors. It’s truly outstanding. The matcha and Earl Grey vanilla flavors are phenomenal.

Joe Mauceri: Ample Hills Creamery.

Julie Millet: King Kone in Katonah

Kala Rama: The best is Anita La Mamma del Gelato at 1141 Broadway. Sugar Hill Creamery at 184 Lennox Ave. in Harlem is great. My kids love an ice cream truck.

Mira Wassef: Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices on Staten Island.

Magee Hickey: My favorite is Brooklyn Farmacy at 513 Henry St. in Carroll Gardens. They have a sundae called Potato Head with North Folk homemade potato chips, peanut butter, caramel sauce, vanilla Ice cream, and whipped cream — to die for. Plus good old fashioned soda fountain feel … They even have egg creams!!

Let’s not forget about New Jersey, where there are just as many amazing places to choose from. The PIX11 staff has you covered!

Alex Lee: Scoops in Chatham has the best homemade flavors; seriously, they’re insanely good. Last Licks in East Hanover’s homemade banana cream pie flavor — if you can get it before they sell out — is divine. Magic Fountain in Summit — shout out to the magic blend! Lastly, McCool’s in Madison — IYKYK.

Dan Mannarino: Kreme & Krumbs in Montclair, Sip N’ Swirl in Fairfield, and The Towne Scoop in Verona.

Grace Gomez: Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream in North Bergen and Uncle Louie G’s Italian Ice & Ice Cream in Maywood.

Hazel Sanchez: Kohr’s Frozen Custard in Lavallette!

Jim Vasil: Halo Pub — must also try their legendary chocolate milk if you go. TK’s — throwback ice cream spot tucked away in Monmouth County. Cream King — in business since 1956, and Thomas Sweet — a wide variety of flavors and toppings.

Katie Corrado: Applegate Farms in Montclair!

Patrick Mason: Torico in Downtown Jersey City.
