‘Playing in New York wasn’t easy’: Rohit Sharma admits after Team India qualifies for Super Eight stage

Team India defeated USA by 7 wickets and won their third consecutive match of the T20 World Cup 2024. India will face Canada in their last match of the Group stage on June 15.

New Delhi: Team India defeated the USA by 7 wickets at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium and qualified for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. India becomes the third team after South Africa and Australia to qualify for the next stage of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma led side played three matches at Nassau County Stadium and won all of them. India defeated Ireland in their first match by 8 wickets and then they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 6 runs in a low-scoring thriller and they defeated USA by 7 wickets in the third match of the group stage.

After the match, India skipper admitted that playing cricket in New York wasn’t easy and they had to stick through till the end in all three games and his team will take a lot of confidence from these wins. “It is a big relief, playing cricket here wasn’t easy. We had to stick through till the end in all 3 games. Will take a lot of confidence from these wins.

He also talked about Indian bowling and praised Arshdeep Singh who took four wickets in the match “We knew bowlers had to take the lead, run-scoring was difficult. All the bowlers did the job, particularly Arshdeep”.

‘Surya showed he has a different game to him’: Rohit Sharma

The Indian captain praised Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav for their brilliant partnership. The Men in Blue lost the wicket of Virat Kohli and Rohit in the powerplay but a 72-run partnership between Shivam and Suryakumar helped India to beat the USA.
“Knew it would be tough. Credit to us for the way we held our nerve and got that partnership. Credit to Surya and Dube for showing the maturity and taking us through”.

Suryakumar Yadav scored his first fifty of the T20 World Cup 2024 and Rohit Sharma credited him for his great performance “He showed he has a different game to him, that’s what you expect from experienced players. Credit to the way he stuck through today to take the game deep and win it for us”.
