Police Seek Suspect in Armed Robbery at Brooklyn Business

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery that took place earlier this month in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn.

According to police, at approximately 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, an unidentified individual entered a commercial establishment located at 302 9th Street. The suspect displayed a firearm and threatened a 35-year-old male employee. The individual then removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and stole a cellphone from the victim before fleeing the scene on foot, traveling eastbound on 10th Street.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

The suspect is described as a male with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a black ski mask, a multi-colored jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, white sneakers, and carrying a black garbage bag.

Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts to contact authorities as the investigation continues.

  • Bronx Man Arrested, Charged with Manslaughter in Fatal Assault

    BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal assault that occurred last month, according to the New York City Police Department.

    Daquan Jackson, 29, of 15 West Mosholu Parkway North, was taken into custody on Tuesday morning at approximately 10:20 a.m. in the confines of the 44th Precinct. Jackson has been charged with first-degree manslaughter.

    The arrest follows an investigation into an incident that took place on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at 7 West Mosholu Parkway North in the 52nd Precinct. Upon arrival, officers were informed that 58-year-old Benjamin Bernal had been punched in the head by an assailant, causing him to fall to the ground. Bernal, a resident of 1050 Anderson Avenue, was transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital for treatment.

    Despite medical efforts, Bernal succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

  • Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Worcester County

    WHALEYVILLE, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday evening on U.S. Route 50 in Worcester County.

    The victim has been identified as Jason Irizarry, 40, of Dover, Pa. Irizarry was operating a BMW motorcycle at the time of the crash. He was initially transported by ambulance to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional and later to ChristianaCare Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

    Another rider, Andrew Strube, 49, of Columbia, Pa., was also involved in the crash. Strube, who was operating a second BMW motorcycle, was transported by ambulance to TidalHealth for treatment of his injuries.

    According to the preliminary investigation, the crash occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on westbound U.S. Route 50 at Hall Road. Irizarry was reportedly passing another vehicle when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a guardrail. Strube, traveling with Irizarry, also lost control of his motorcycle as a result of the incident.

    All lanes of Route 50 were closed for approximately four hours as authorities conducted their investigation.

    The Maryland State Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact the Berlin Barrack at 410-641-3101. The investigation remains ongoing.
