Presser Points: Drew Lock on track to start vs. Falcons

📰 Drew Lock “should be OK” to start at quarterback this Sunday. That is the intention after the veteran was a gameday inactive and served as the emergency third quarterback last week while he dealt with heel and left elbow injuries.

📰 Tommy DeVito, who started Week 15 against the Ravens but did not play in the second half due to a concussion, is moving through the protocol. He will do some work at practice and has “a chance” to be No. 2 on Sunday. The Giants also have Tim Boyle, who threw the Giants’ first touchdown since Week 9 in relief of DeVito.

📰 On dealing with the constant quarterback uncertainty, Daboll said, “You go out there and do the best you can. Prepare the guys. The three of those guys work hard. Try to take in the game plan. Go out there and practice. So, they’ve all got to be ready. “

📰 The Giants are “catching up” on their film study of Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr., the rookie eighth overall pick who was recently announced as the starter in place of veteran Kirk Cousins. “Well, look, the defensive guys, a few days before were doing a lot of work on Cousins. Penix hasn’t played, I would say, a ton. He got in the Denver game when the score was out of hand, like seven snaps or somewhere around there. Seattle. Played in the preseason against Miami. And then we have tape from him in college. So, catching up to do relative to the starting quarterback.”

Daboll added, “You’re looking at the player. So, I’ve looked at tape this morning back from Washington. I know the defensive coaches have as well. Again, he’s played sparingly. I think he’s thrown 22 passes in the preseason and the regular season.”

📰 On what the Giants thought of Penix in the pre-draft process: “Good player. He was a good player at Indiana. He was a good player at Washington. Made it all the way to the national championship game. Had a lot of good pieces around him. He’s a good quarterback.”

📰 Aaron Stinnie, who started last week at left guard, is in the concussion protocol. Rookie Jake Kubas will get some reps at practice in his place. “We’ll see where Stinnie is.”

📰 Inside linebacker Bobby Okereke (back) and outside linebackers Brian Burns (ankle) and Patrick Johnson (knee) will not practice today.

📰 Burns is “day to day” while Daboll thinks Johnson will “be out probably this week.”

📰 Daboll is “hopeful” that cornerbacks Deonte Banks (rib) and Cor’Dale Flott (quad) will be back this week.

📰 On Burns playing hard through injuries: “He’s a professional. Pro football player that goes out there and takes pride in what he does.”

📰 When asked about Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy Jr. finishing their first NFL season, Daboll said Ashley Lynn, the Giants’ director of player engagement, does “a good job” with the rookies. “Our player program is all hands-on deck with the young guys. Again, they’ve played a lot of football for us. They know what’s expected. Been productive.”

📰 Daboll doesn’t have any added motivation to play spoiler to a Falcons team still in the playoff hunt. “We just try to go out there and play as well as we can. Prepare, be disciplined, focus on the things we can control.”
