Rams playbook pilfered from lineman’s car as nightmare season extends off the field

The NFL-equivalent of ‘the dog ate my homework,’ you ask?

It is, of course, ‘the car thief stole my playbook.’

Truth be told, the robber who broke into the car belonging to Rams’ linebacker Conor McDermott was after the iPad.

It just so happens that this was a team-issued tablet and contained the entirety of LA’s playbook.

Also on the device was player-specific personal information, nutritional guidelines and schedules, according to a Miami Herald report on Thursday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the car was parked in a residential area when the theft occurred. Police continue to investigate the matter, but no arrests have been made to date.

As if Sean McVay didn’t have enough headaches.

Rams fans only can hope that their team has more success wiping the device remotely than they have had in weeks one through five against the Packers, Bears, Cardinals and Lions.

It’s not a high-bar for LA — 1-4, fourth place in the NFC West — but it is a bar.

According to ESPN’s 2024 NFL Football Power Index, the Rams have less than a 12% chance of making the playoffs.

McDermott, who has spent portions of his eight-year career with the Bills, Jets, and Patriots, is yet to suit up for the Rams this season; the linebacker was placed on the injured reserve in late-August with an undisclosed injury.

New York fans perhaps remember the big man’s touchdown on a fourth-and-goal, late in the fourth quarter of a close game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.

The touchdown pass, one of Zach Wilson’s finest during his tenure, propelled the Jets to their fourth win of that season.

Coming off their Week 6 bye, the Rams will host the Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) at SoFi Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
