The New York Jets have one of the most notorious quarterbacks in the NFL. With QB Aaron Rodgers entering his 20th NFL season, he has certainly earned legendary status around the league.

Yet, he played just four snaps in the 2023 season. This was due to Rodgers tearing his Achilles in the opening game last year. Despite this, one notable Top 100 NFL player list gave Rodgers a very generous ranking.

Recently, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports ranked the 100 best players in the NFL. He does this yearly and mentioned where players ranked on the list last season.

One of the most notable rankings in this list was New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers. He received the #20 spot on this list. What may be even more surprising is the fact that Rodgers actually moved up nine spots compared to the 2023 rankings. This is despite Rodgers playing just four snaps in the entire 2023 season.

Comparing Other Quarterbacks on the List

Rodgers was not the only quarterback to be included on this list. Still, he was arguably the most surprising quarterback on this list. Of every quarterback in the NFL, Rodgers ranked fifth on this list.

So, who were the quarterbacks ahead of Rodgers on this list? Well, Patrick Mahomes topped the overall list. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson were the other quarterback who were ranked above Rodgers.

There were 10 other NFL quarterbacks who ended up ranked on this list. However, there were a few notable quarterbacks behind Rodgers. Examples include Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, Jared Goff, and Tua Tagovailoa.

Is Aaron Rodgers Grandfathered In?

As mentioned above, Rodgers has played in the NFL for nearly two decades. However, he has not played football competitively in about two years and he is now 40 years old. With these factors in mind, an argument can be made that Rodgers is being ranked best on reputation rather than his current abilities.

Right now, we do not know what Rodgers is going to be in 2024. However, it is fair to be skeptical of Rodgers still being a top 20 overall player in the NFL. On top of this, younger quarterbacks such as Jared Goff, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Trevor Lawrence are only getting better as Rodgers gets older.
