Saquon Barkley slams New York Giants for ‘disrespectful’ contract negotiations
SAQUON Barkley has revealed details inside the failed negotiations to resign with the New York Giants.
Barkley left the Giants for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, and much of the process was caught on camera during Hard Knocks.
However, Barkley featured on the Scoop City podcast to share exactly what happened from his perspective.
“It was kind of a little disrespectful, to be honest,” Barkley said.
“It’s kind of like a slap in the face like, ‘You go see what you are worth, and then if you’re worth that, we’ll see if you’re worth it, and maybe we’ll match it.'”
Barkley revealed that once Giants general manager Joe Schoen told him to test free agency that he was never going back to them.
“It was over after that phone call, in my opinion,” Barkley said.
“It was over after that because I never in my heart truly believed they were going to match it, or they only wanted me for a lower price.
“Joe [Schoen], he made a comment saying that it took 10 years off his life.
“Like, if it took 10 years off your life, what do you think it did for me?”

Barkley also thought that it was unfair that many other pieces on the Giants’ roster got new contracts before him, saying it wasn’t “fair.”
“All I asked was like, ‘I’m fine with this contract. Can we just guarantee the first two years?'” Barkley continued.
“Joe was like, ‘I’ll talk to the ownership, we’ll get back to you,’ and then crickets.
“I get you have all the leverage, and you’re doing your job, but at the end of the day, can I get some respect too?”
Barkley ended up signing a deal with the division rival Eagles for three years and $37.75 million.
The contract can expand to be worth up to $46.75 million with incentives, and $26 million is fully guaranteed.
Barkley shared on the podcast that he is extremely excited to be an Eagle, and is already captivated by the fans.
“You’re like, woah these mother******s are insane!” Barkley said.
“On this side you’re like, they bleed this. We lose on Sunday they’re having a bad week.
“I’m itching. I can’t wait for camp, I can’t wait for the season.”
Barkley will face his former team for the first time in Week 7 at MetLife Stadium.
