Seahawks vs. Jets live updates: Week 13 score, summary, injury news, highlights
The Seattle Seahawks (6-5) were looking up at the rest of the NFC West entering their bye week. Two weeks later, they’re now leading the division following consecutive wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals. Before their rematch against Arizona, the Seahawks head out to MetLife Stadium to take on Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets (3-8).
On paper, the Seahawks should be favorites to extend the Jets’ miserable season, but New York has lost five games by one possession. They’re also 12th in points allowed, so that’s something to keep in mind giving Seattle’s issues scoring. Can Geno Smith haunt his former team for the second time in three seasons? And can the Seahawks defense continue to play at a high level? We’ll find out starting at 10 am PT on FOX.
Note: This is a regularly updated summary, with a full recap and highlights coming once the game ends. The paragraph you see right now will be gone once this game is over. This is more like a running commentary separate from the game threads (which is where you still comment during the games), and refreshing this page will produce the newest information.
1st Quarter Recap
The Seahawks started the game on offense, picking up only one first down before punting. Geno Smith threw three straight incomplete passes after his third down conversion to Tyler Lockett. Aaron Rodgers’ first possession was a swift three-and-out, with boos quickly coming from the crowd.
After a Seahawks three-and-out, Aaron Rodgers capitalized on single coverage with Davante Adams beating Josh Jobe for 24 yards. The first big play for the Jets. A would-be sack by Leonard Williams to drop the Jets out of field goal range was nullified due to Williams grabbing Rodgers’ face mask. Ouch. Rodgers threw a touchdown to Davante Adams a few plays later.
Ouch. Dee Williams immediately fumbled the ensuing kick return. This led to a touchdown via shovel pass to the seldom used Isaiah Davis. The two-point conversion from Breece Hall was good.
Laviska Shenault Jr promptly dropped the ensuing kickoff, but he was able to recover to end a nightmare quarter for the Seahawks.
2nd Quarter Recap
The Seahawks badly needed a spark on offense after the poor start, and they got it. Geno Smith led a 10-play, 88-yard drive capped off by a play-action touchdown to rookie tight end A.J. Barner. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a couple of critical catches for 50 combined yards on the way to paydirt.
My goodness. The Seahawks special teams is an EMBARRASSMENT. Kene Nwangwu took the ensuing kickoff back 99 yards to the house, then Laviska Shenault Jr double fumbled the next kick return back to the Jets. That’s three fumbles (two lost) and a kick return TD given up.
PICK-SIX! After Aaron Rodgers missed an easy TD to Garrett Wilson, Leonard Williams dropped into coverage and picked Rodgers. The Big Cat rumbled his way for a 91-yard house call against his former team! No way. And then Seattle had the PAT blocked, then allowed a big kick return yet again. This is a crazy game.
On 4th and 2, the Jets went for it and the Seahawks sent a blitz. Rodgers had a wide open Davante Adams, who left Riq Woolen in the dust and made a diving catch… or NOT! It was a drop and a turnover on downs. Seattle turned that into a 54-yard field goal for Jason Myers.
