New Delhi: The high-profile India vs Pakistan match in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 is in danger as the pro-ISIS group has reportedly threatened the New York matches in the T20 World Cup 2024. India and Pakistan are scheduled to lock horns in New York on June 09. The USA police commissioner has assured to take safety measures before the start of the matches in the city.

Nassau Cricket Stadium in New York will host eight T20 World Cup matches between 3 to 12 June 2024 and the Nassau County Police Department has assured to take all possible security measures to ensure the matches are conducted smoothly without any potential threats or disruptions.

The first game in New York will be played between Sri Lanka and South Africa on Monday. The USA Police Department has inspected the stadium before the game. The venue has a capacity of 34,000.

The most high-profile game between India vs Pakistan will be played at the venue on June 9. ISIS has reportedly issued a terror threat for the match. The USA Police Department has deployed SWAT teams with specialist police snipers and undercover police will also be operating inside the stadium.

“The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) released their statement after the terror threat.

“We work closely with authorities in our host countries and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event” they added.

The security will be more “like the Super Bowl but on steroids” said Bruce Blakeman executive of Nassau County

The public parks which are surrounded by the stadium were closed off to the public for eight days to minimise the threat of drone attacks.

Security for the fans will be more like airport-style security to scan everything before gaining entry to the stadium before the match.
