Steelers to wear Color Rush uniforms vs. Giants
The Steelers will wear their Color Rush uniforms this week when they play the New York Giants at Acrisure Stadium on Monday Night Football, the first time they have worn the uniforms during the 2024 season.
The Steelers own a 7-3 record when wearing the Color Rush uniforms.
“It’s a different jersey,” said defensive tackle Cameron Heyward. “I like to think we win more than we lose in them. We usually do it for a night game, and it provides an intensity and a rush, no pun intended. It’s a good time to show off some cool jerseys.
“It gets the fans going. It looks like a black hole when you see the black and gold. Everybody has their old-school jerseys, but it’s nice to bring something new school to the party.”
The Color Rush uniform has become a favorite with players and fans alike, a monochromatic look that was first introduced to wear primarily on Thursday Night Football.
The uniform is a black jersey with gold numbers and gold stripes on the sleeves, while the pants are all black, with a gold stripe.
“I just like the all black look,” said safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. “I think it looks sleek.”
The Steelers first wore the uniforms on Christmas Day in 2016 when they defeated the Baltimore Ravens, 31-27, to win the AFC North. The team also wore them in 2017 against the Tennessee Titans, a 40-17 win.
“It’s an awesome uniform,” said tight end Pat Freiermuth. “It brings the collective together. It’s something different, something to look forward to, to get up for. When you wear a different uniform in a game, it’s cool.
“Plus, all black is a sweet uniform. It’s cool.”
In 2018 the team wore them twice, the first time on Thursday Night Football when they defeated the Carolina Panthers, 52-21. They wore them a second time against the New England Patriots, a 17-10 win.
The team also wore them twice in 2019, including in a win over the Miami Dolphins, 27-14, on Monday Night Football. In 2020 the Steelers defeated the Ravens, 19-14, in a Color Rush game. They defeated the Chicago Bears wearing them in 2021.
“I have seen so many great players wearing that jersey,” said cornerback Joey Porter Jr. “I like how the yellow pops on the block numbers. I have always been a fan of the block numbers. The fact that they put a spin on that for color rush, I love it. It always looks clean. I get excited for color rush.
“It’s an overall good uniform that I hope we bring back more often. Every time we play in them, I am happy.”
