Summer Travel Slip Away? Catch NYC’s Best Fall And Winter Flights

NEW YORK CITY – It’s a marvel of the modern world: depart New York City and land – within hours – at hundreds of destinations worldwide. And as summer dissipates, a fresh wave of opportunities to explore new corners of the globe arrives.

Major airlines have rolled out new routes and enticing fare sales for fall and winter, ensuring that whether you’re seeking a tropical retreat or winter wonderland, there’s a flight ready to take you there.

Many carriers serve New York City area airports – for the purposes of this story, LaGuardia Airport (LGA), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – so Patch contacted only those airlines that offer the most seats, according to commercial aviation publication Airways.

In order, that’s United, Delta, JetBlue, American, Spirit, and Southwest, which each offered at least 2 million seats to New Yorkers as of December 2023.

This Fall

Right now, there are deeply discounted flights on American to Paris – or London – as part of a broader European sale. Roundtrip flights may be had for as low as $448 in the airline’s restrictive basic economy class, for reservations made between Sept. 4 and Sept. 17.

Patch priced it out, and it is possible – and actually easy – to book a roundtrip, nonstop flight to Paris (in basic economy) for $447.50.

Beginning October 9, JetBlue adds twice weekly nonstop flights from JFK to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, located in the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles – the Caribbean.

“St. Vincent and the Grenadines, comprised of 32 islands and cays, is renowned for its warm people, volcanic landscapes, black and white sand beaches, and pristine sailing waters, representing the quintessential Caribbean paradise,” according to the airline.

On October 24, United will add three weekly nonstop flights from Newark to Morocco – and specifically, Marrakesh. It’s the only carrier to directly connect the two cities, according to a the airline.

Returning to JetBlue, there will be two weekly nonstop flights from JFK to Bonaire beginning Nov. 5. A “diver’s paradise,” according to the airline, the Dutch island is “renowned for its crystal clear waters…vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life.”

Returning to American, new nonstop domestic service from LGA begin November 5. This includes departures to Tampa, Orlando, Fort Myers, Sarasota, New Orleans, and West Palm Beach, a spokesperson told Patch.

Winter 2025

Skiers can count on JetBlue to transport them to Big Sky, Montana, via Bozeman, to which the airline will add nonstop service from JFK in February.

Last but not least, if you’ve always thought about spending Mardi Gras in the Big Easy, Spirit is adding daily, nonstop service between LGA and New Orleans on Feb. 12, 2025, just in time for Mardi Gras.

At this time, Southwest isn’t introducing any new routes in New York, according to a spokesperson. No info about any current or upcoming sales was provided.

What about Delta? The airline did not respond to numerous requests for comment, but Patch will update this story if we hear back.
