T20 WC: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli to board flight as first batch of Team India set to leave for New York

One batch of Indian cricketers will leave for New York on Saturday. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are amongst the big players who will take the flight to Dubai and then go to New York.

New Delhi: With just the summit clash remaining in the two-month long Indian Premier League 2024, its time for the cricketers to move on to their next big assignment – the T20 World Cup 2024. The showpiece event kickstarts in a week’s time and apart from the participants of the two finalists – Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, all have started to pack their bags.

Big Indian names to fly on Saturday

The first batch of Team India, which includes skipper Rohit Sharma and star player Virat Kohli, is set to leave for the big event on Saturday. According to Sports Tak, the players will fly from Mumbai to Dubai at 10 PM on May 25 and then take another flight from Dubai to New York. Apart from Rohit and Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav are amongst the other big names that will be leaving the country on Saturday.

As per the report, players like Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal will leave with the second batch of Indian cricketers, which is set to depart in couple of days time. The campaign of all the four cricketers ended on Friday after Rajasthan Royals lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 36 runs in the second qualifier of the cash-rich league.

No news on Hardik Pandya

Amongst the 4 players, Avesh isn’t a part of the squad, but is a part of the reserves along with Khaleel Ahmed, Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill. While Khaleel and Gill’s campaign for over in the IPL, Rinku still has a game to play as he’s part of the KKR setup which will take on SRH in the final clash on Sunday. Apart from Rinku, who is expected to leave on May 27, there’s no news on vice-captain Hardik Pandya. After MI’s exit from the IPL, Hardik flew to London and is expected to join the team from there.

After reaching New York, India will have a couple of days to get going before taking on Bangladesh in their warm-up match on Saturday, June 1 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. India’s first match in the World Cup is against Ireland in a Group A match on Wednesday, June 5 in New York.
