Indian cricket team moved on from
casual limbering up on Tuesday
to a prolonged stay out in the sun ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 2007 T20 World Cup champions India held a three-hour net session in New York’s Nassau County on Wednesday. It was India’s first formal and full-fledged practice session since arrival in the USA on 26 May.

On Tuesday, the team had held a brief running and condition session under the watchful eye of the physiotherapists who were getting the players to get accustomed to the conditions and change in timezone.

All players, except Virat Kohli, have arrived in New York and took part in the practice session on Wednesday. As per media reports, Kohli will leave on Thursday.

India’s net session took place at Cantiague Park, located five miles from the Nassau County Stadium, where the team will play three matches in the T20 World Cup, as well as the warm-up fixture against Bangladesh on 1 June.

Cantiague Park is the official training facility for the teams, designated by the International Cricket Council (ICC), and has six drop-in practice pitches.

India had access to three pitches, with two being used by the batters. The third surface was reserved for the bowlers. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started things off in the batting nets, followed by rest of the players in the batting order.

Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were also among those who batted.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal were advised to take it easy, as they had only joined the team on Tuesday after a long flight. All four players were present during the practice session.

India are scheduled to hold another net session on Friday.

The city witnessed rain in some parts but the weather at the venue on the outskirts of New York was reported to be cricket-friendly with pleasant conditions and a day temperature of around 18 degrees Celsius.
