T20 World Cup: New York stadium to have police snipers for marquee India vs Pakistan clash – Reports

Huge efforts are being made to tighten the security for the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup, being held in West Indies and USA. Ahead of the much-awaited India vs Pakistan match, on June 9 (Sunday) in New York, organisers and security officials are leaving no stone unturned for the smooth conduct of the match. Thus, there will be police snipers at covert locations for the upcoming India-Pakistan T20 WC match, especially after a pro-ISIS group reportedly threatened to disrupt the high-voltage game. Both the Asian giants are set to lock horns at the Nassau County Cricket Ground, New York.

According to a report in the BBC, the Nassau County Police Department is set to oversee a massive operation to ensure all the games held at the venue are held without any unwanted incident. In addition, there will be SWAT teams along with plainclothes police officers operating inside the ground.

The ICC told the news outlet, “The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place.” It added, “We work closely with authorities in our host countries and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event.”

The report further stated that the parkland surrounding the temporary stadium will also not be open for the public on all match days, in a bid to prevent any potential drone attack. Thus, the fans attending the games will have to go through airport-style security scanners before being granted entry inside the stadium premises.

Talking about Rohit Sharma-led Team India, the one-time winners are placed in Group A along with arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and USA. They will open their campaign versus Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County Cricket Ground in New York before meeting Babar Azam-led Men in Green, at the same venue, on June 9.
