New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s 10 squad members, including skipper Rohit Sharma, reached New York on Sunday morning for the T20 Word Cup. Head coach Rahul Dravid and the rest of his support staff were also part of the first batch of arrivals.

Former skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Hardik Pandya are expected to join the team at a later date. Apart from Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel were the players who touched down in NYC while reserve players Shubman Gill and Khaleel Ahmed were among those who travelled.

Virat Kohli was part of the Royals Challengers Bengaluru side that played in the IPL Eliminator in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. He will join his national team-mates at a later date.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya would also join later as he had travelled to London once the league stage of IPL got completed. His side Mumbai failed to qualify for the knockouts, having been placed at the bottom at the end of the league stage.

Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal and Avesh Khan (reserve) were involved with Qualifier 2 in Chennai on Friday and are scheduled to leave for New York on Monday.

India are to face Bangladesh in the lone T20 World Cup warm-up game at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where three of their leagues games, including the crunch game against Pakistan on June 9, would be played.

Construction at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium began only in January with a drop-in pitch used for the ground. India are drawn to face Ireland in their tournament opener on June 5.
