T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli Joins Team India in New York, Management to Take Call on Participation in Warm-up vs Bangladesh – News18

Virat Kohli has linked up with the Indian cricket team in New York for the upcoming T20 World Cup and will soon begin his preparations for the multi-nation event. The side had an optional net session today and Kohli wasn’t in attendance as he landed just a few hours back.

Prior to the optional session, which started at 9:30 am local time at Cantiague Park, India had two sessions which were attended by all squad members, except Kohli.

Most of the players took it easy on eve of the warm-up fixture vs Bangladesh and only Rishabh Pant and Rinku Singh were among the specialist batters who had a hit in the nets.

India are scheduled to play only one warm-up before getting their campaign underway against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. India are travelling with a squad of 15 and four reserves and the management will take a call on who travels to the venue for the Bangladesh fixture since Kohli has just joined the squad, his participation is still not confirmed.

“The management will take a call on who travels to the venue. Whether all 19 or some stay back. Completely the management’s call. Similarly, with Virat Kohli. The management will keep his travel and everything in mind before taking the final call,” says a well-placed source.

India will play three out of the four group games at the Nassau County venue and will be using Cantiague Park for training and practice. As CricketNext had reported on May 30, India are not happy with the “average” practice facilities given to them as Cantiague Park is a makeshift practice facility and has six drop-in pitches for teams.

Additionally, there was some issue with the food being served to the players and support staff but it is understood that it has been resolved now.

After playing Ireland, India will lock horns with Pakistan on June 9, the USA on June 12 and culminate their group stage campaign with the game against Canada in Florida. The Super Eights, semi-finals and final will be played in the Caribbean.
