On Sunday, Taylor Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce attended the Men’s Singles Final of the U.S. Open tennis championships at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. They cheered on another Taylor — Taylor Fritz from the American team — as he played Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who won.
The singer wore a red-and-white gingham Reformation Sora Linen dress, which had a fitted bodice, loose straps and short skirt. She styled the outfit with black cat-eye sunglasses from Crap Eyewear, an independent sunglass brand from Venice, Calif., known for its bioacetate frames that are plant-based and biodegradable. She elevated the look by adding gold Louis Vuitton Louise PM earrings and her signature red lip.
She also matched with boyfriend Kelce, who was wearing white shorts, and a white polo under a white Gucci cardigan emblazoned with the Italian brand’s signature red and green stripes — which created the illusion of suspenders. A bucket hat from the brand completed the look. Together, the couple embraced his-and-hers ’60s Americana inspiration — with gingham, bucket hats and suspenders among the era’s trends.
Swift often embraces high-low dressing, by matching luxury brands with less expensive clothing that are at accessible price points for many of her fans.
In the past, she’s often helped smaller brands go viral on social media just by wearing them. In 2021, when Swift joined TikTok, she wore a light yellow floral Reformation summer dress, which quickly sold out. Last year, she wore Area crystal-cut shorts to a Chiefs-Jets games, which also sold out. Ever since she began her high-profile relationship with Kelce, fashion and sports brands have been benefiting from the buzz that has been coined the “Traylor” effect.
On Saturday, she and Kelce attended a wedding, where the singer wore an ivory Zimmermann cutout floral-print dress, blush Christian Louboutin Condora heels, a blue jacquard Vivienne Westwood handbag and diamond-encrusted EF Collection earrings.
Earlier this year, Swift’s style evolution was a topic of a book by Sarah Chapelle, “Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras.” It features 200 looks from different eras, from her youthful bohemian dresses to her more recent bejeweled gowns.
