Teen charged with deadly shooting during Manhattan attempted robbery: NYPD

LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) — A teenager was taken into custody by police in connection with a deadly attempted robbery inside a Manhattan apartment building, according to authorities.

The 16-year-old boy faces charges of second degree murder, first degree robbery, three counts of burglary, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, police say.

The teen is being investigated in relation to the deadly shooting of 57-year-old Ying Zhu Liu. According to officials, the mother and wife was shot in the face and killed in her Lower East Side apartment building on Sept. 9.

Liu’s husband said he was followed by two men who attempted to rob him inside his building. When Liu heard the commotion in the hallway she came outside to help her husband but was fatally shot in the face, police say.

Officials are still searching for a second person connected to the incident.
