Texas vs. Georgia prediction, odds : SEC championship game player props, picks, best bets

Tre Wisner has been a revelation for Texas.

The sophomore running back has taken over as the top ball carrier for the Longhorns after a season-ending injury suffered by CJ Baxter and struggles from Jaydon Blue.

And it’s hard to imagine it working out any better for both he and the team.

Over the past two games, Wisner has rushed for a combined 344 yards for the Longhorns as they head into the SEC championship game against Georgia.

That stretch included 186 yards on the ground, or 5.6 yards per carry, against a strong Texas A&M defense that was only allowing 3.9 yards per attempt.

A week before that against Kentucky, Wisner ran for 6.1 yards per carry.

His play has earned him high praise from Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian ahead of Saturday’s big game. Texas is a small favorite for this matchup in Atlanta.

“About a month ago, we challenged our guys about the running game,” Sarkisian said. “We knew we were going to need it to get where we wanted to go. And boy, have they responded. Tre Wisner has just been an absolute warrior for us.”

Oddmakers aren’t quite so sure Wisner’s wild success will continue at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Wisner’s rushing yards over/under is pegged at 86.5 yards at FanDuel Sportsbook, which is barely half the number he’s averaged over the past two games since becoming Texas’ No. 1 RB.

Now, the Bulldogs’ defense won’t be as pliable as the previous two Wisner dominated.

But just reaching 100 yards with virtually no competition in the backfield and confidence from the coach should make this an attainable mark.

The play: Tre Wisner 100+ rushing Yards (+142, FanDuel)
