The Basketball League’s New York Phoenix coming to Schenectady

The Basketball League is coming to Schenectady.

The New York Phoenix is the newest expansion team in the TBL. Owned by former members of the Albany Patroons, they will be coached by former Patroons guard Trevis Wyche.

”I earned the respect on the court as a player, as a captain, as a point guard. And that’s just what I do. I’m a leader and it’s going to be the same as a coach, you know?” Wyche said. “Just be respectful to the guys.”

Rebecca Clifford, CEO of Phoenix Sports Management, said she thinks fans will love it.

“We named the team the ‘Phoenix’ to symbolize the rebirth of Schenectady and the return of professional sports to our new home town,” said Clifford.

The Phoenix will play 12 regular season home games in a section of the 90,000-square-foot Armory Studios in downtown Schenectady. The season starts in March. Tickets will go on sale Nov. 29.

“We are so excited to host a professional basketball team at our amazing Armory in the heart of downtown,” said Mayor Gary McCarthy.
