“There is no guarantee”: NFL insider says that Aaron Rodgers might not be be back in a New York Jets uniform in 2025 | NFL News – Times of India

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t a lock to play here next season, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini said. Their team is in third place in the AFC East with a 3-7 record. Rodgers played just one game last season after suffering an Achilles’ tendon tear. He has this season averaged only 225.8 yards per game, his fifth-lowest mark in 20 years. The 40-year-old quarterback has a career-high 13 interceptions in a season, with a 51.9 QBR and seven interceptions in 10 games, and his final team is likely to be where he ends up next year.

Although Aaron Rodgers has expressed his desire to play football again in 2025, sources say there is no guarantee he will return to the New York Jets, as reported by Dianna Russini. “Let’s be clear: There is no guarantee Aaron Rodgers will be back in a Jets uniform in 2025,” Russini said.

Rodgers has a year left on his contract, which includes $2.5 million in base salary that is not guaranteed and $21 million in bonuses. If the Jets cut Rodgers before June 1, they would accrue a dead money charge of $49 million but just $14 million if they do it after June 1. The former Packers’ quarterback did miss most of last season with a torn left Achilles tendon, but he’s good again. Not impressive against Arizona in a 31-6 loss, Rodgers completed only one pass longer than 10 yards. If the Jets cut Rodgers before June 1, there would be a dead money charge of $49 million.
Rodgers is struggling with ankle, knee, and hamstring issues, which have significantly reduced his mobility. “I mean, I’m not playing as well as I would like to play, for sure,” he said on Wednesday. “The beauty in this game is it’s a team game. The frustrating part is that if you’re a great competitor, you hold yourself to a standard and it’s not unrealistic. And I haven’t reached that standard this year.”

The Jets have many decisions to make for 2025: To draft one of the top quarterback prospects next spring or to bring back Rodgers and maybe give it one last dance with one of the NFL’s all-time best quarterback talents.
