“This was not an easy decision”: Was Aaron Rodgers Involved in the Big Move of Firing New York Jets’ Head Coach Robert Saleh? | NFL News – Times of India

The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh due to a struggling front office. The team started the 2024 season with two wins and three losses. Saleh, who had a 20-36 regular season record and no playoff appearances in three-plus seasons, is the NFL’s first head coach to be fired this season. The Jets are currently a 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.Saleh was named Jets head coach in 2021 after spending four seasons as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator. He became the first Muslim American to lead an NFL team and the third Arab American head coach.

Was Aaron Rodgers a key reason in firing Robert Saleh?

After the Super Bowl winning coach, Robert Saleh left the Jets, rumors of Aaron Rodgers involvement in the move were circulated, but Jets owner has now clarified the rumors. As per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “Jets owner Woody Johnson said he spoke to Aaron Rodgers on Monday night, but it wasn’t about Robert Saleh. Johnson said Rodgers had no input in the decision made this morning.”
While Johnson denied the allegations, Fox Sports claims it’s a “coup d’etat” due to Aaron Rodgers’ growing influence within the Jets. Since joining in 2023, Rodgers’ influence has grown, and the team has been taking steps in his favor since his trade. The team has been taking every step in his favor. A-Rod may be not linked to Robert Saleh’s departure directly, however he may be one of reasons behind it marking the first time in 25 years that the Jets owner has fired a Head Coach mid-season. He wrote in an announcement, “This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be given our expectations.”
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will replace Saleh on an interim basis, Johnson confirmed Tuesday. “He is a tough coach who has the respect of the coaches and players on this team,” Johnson said. “I believe he along with the coaches on this staff can get the most out of our talented team and attain the goals we established this offseason.”
