Titans player takes subtle jab at New York Giants DC Shane Bowen | Sporting News
New York Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen came over from the Tennessee Titans this offseason looking to improve several areas on that side of the ball.
After the regime under Mike Vrabel was let go this offseason in Tennessee, the Giants hired Bowen. The Titans, in turn, hired Brian Callahan as their head coach and Dennard Wilson as the defensive coordinator.
Through the first few weeks of OTAs, Titans edge rusher Arden Key noticed a difference in the new scheme while taking a subtle jab at the way Vrabel and Bowen coached the defensive players.
“The intensity (Dennard Wilson) got, the detail and we don’t move on until everything is fixed,” Key said, via Paul Kuharsky. “And the detail he got, the swag he got that he comes in with everyday, man, it’s going to be exciting.”
When Kuharsky followed up with a question about the previous regime of Vrabel and Bowen moving on before details were fixed, Arden’s answer was pretty clear.
“Hell yeah,” Key said. “Yes, we moved on. If we messed up, we didn’t fix it. And now, this year, when we mess up, we don’t move on until we fix it.”
The Giants already had defensive coordinator drama with the entire Wink Martindale situation earlier in the offseason.
Key only worked under Bowen and Vrabel for one season so it’s unclear whether this was an issue felt by the whole team or whether it was a personal issue.
Either way, the Giants defense already has plenty of question marks. Hopefully, it doesn’t become an issue for Brian Daboll and his staff.
