Touchdowns & Takeaways: Receivers respond with big day

Allen Robinson II has caught 384 more passes than Tommy DeVito has attempted in his young career, but the veteran wide receiver and upstart quarterback have bridged the age gap. Robinson had one of his most active practices as a Giant, racking up a handful of catches throughout the day. The highlight was a touchdown during a team period. DeVito rolled one way and found Robinson going the other for a score. Before that, the two hooked up for a long catch-and-run up the right sideline.

A day after the safeties accounted for three interceptions (including two during 1-on-1 drills), the offense stayed clean in the turnover department on Tuesday.

Dexter Lawrence did Dexter Lawrence things and batted a pass to kick off team drills. In addition to his two Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro nods, Lawrence was recently voted No. 24 by his peers on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2024. He joined outside linebacker Brian Burns (No. 55) on the list, becoming the highest Giants player on the Top 100 since running back Saquon Barkley came in at No. 16 in 2019.

After that abrupt start to the day, Daniel Jones fired off a series of long completions to Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt and Wan’Dale Robinson. The middle one was the catch of the day, with Jones placing it high enough so only Hyatt could snatch it out of the air.

Outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari, who started the preseason opener against the Lions, notched a would-be sack.

Jones feathered in a nice pass to Slayton between the second and third levels of the defense for a good gain. The quarterback also broke free for a long run near the end of practice.

“He’s made strides every day,” Daboll said of Jones before practice. “Again, it’s some new guys that we’re throwing to. [Training camp was] the first time he’s been in team [drills]. It’s been a steady improvement from when we started when he had his first go-through in team and had people around his legs. There’s new things, new pieces, new tight ends, new receiver. So, that’s always a work in progress. At least that I’ve been part of, in training camp, when you’re dealing with new pieces and things like that, him coming back from the injury, I think he’s done a fantastic job. He’s continuing to grow and he’s done well here these last couple weeks.”
