Touchdowns & Takeaways: Rookies go long at OTAs

Here are the touchdowns, takeaways, and other top plays from the day:

Touchdowns

Malik Nabers showed why he was drafted sixth overall and got behind the defense for a long touchdown from Drew Lock during 11-on-11 drills. While Daniel Jones has not been able to practice with the rookie in full-team periods, he has been able to connect with him during 7-on-7 sessions. And the quarterback is “fired up” about having a new weapon.

“For one, you can tell he loves football,” Jones said about Nabers after practice. “It’s important to him. He cares a lot about it. Wants to get it right. Obviously, he’s extremely talented. Everybody knows that. Great route runner, strong, fast, adjusts to the ball well. All the things you look for. It will be a process. I look forward to putting in the work with him.”

On his health, Jones added that he is in a “good spot” and the goal is to be fully ready for the first day of training camp in two months.

Takeaways

The offense was clean in that department, but third-year safety Dane Belton nearly had an interception on a nice play where he closed on a deep pass from across the field.

Other Notable Plays

Rookie tight end Theo Johnson had an active day, starting with a reception from Jones to start 7-on-7s. The 6-foot-6, 264-pound Penn State product also hooked up with Tommy DeVito for a big gain during 11-on-11 drills. Fellow tight end Lawrence Cager also notched a few catches throughout the day.

Deonte Banks, Darnay Holmes, and Kaleb Hayes all scored pass breakups for the cornerback room.

Rookie linebacker Darius Muasau, a sixth-round pick from UCLA, showed his coverage skills to force an incompletion on a deep attempt.
