Trump, Zelenskyy to meet on Friday in New York | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News

Former US President Donald Trump says he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Trump Tower in New York on Friday.

The Republican presidential candidate said at a news conference on Thursday that Zelenskyy had asked to meet him.

Trump also said that if he were president, Russia would have never attacked Ukraine. He went on to repeat his claim that he would “quite quickly” be able to make a deal between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy if he wins the November election.

Trump also argued that European countries should shoulder more of the financial burden to help Ukraine fight the war.

He said they are paying “only a small fraction” of the money that the US is paying, and called it “one of the things that are very bothersome” to him. He said: “They should be equalizing. They should start paying up.”
