Two killed, one injured in New York knife attack, suspect arrested

New York police arrested a man who allegedly killed two people and severely injured a third in an apparent knife attack on Monday (Nov 18). 

According to The Guardian, the stabbing occurred at a construction site in the early morning when the first victim, a 36-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen. 

The New York police department told the agency that the victim was working at the site. 

Two hours after the first attack, a 68-year-old man was stabbed multiple times. 

The third stabbing occurred around 11 am on the same day when a woman was stabbed, who was described as being in hospital and in critical condition.

ABC News reported that the 51-year-old suspect lived at the Bellevue Men’s Shelter on East 30th Street. 

Police said they had recovered two bloody kitchen knives in connection with the case.

“These random attacks left two innocent victims dead and another one fighting for her life,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said, as reported by The Guardian.

“It is a clear, clear example of a criminal justice system, of a mental health system that continues to fail New Yorkers,” the mayor, Eric Adams, said at the press briefing, reported Reuters. 

“They recovered two large kitchen knives that are covered in blood. His clothing is also covered in blood. This person of interest was brought back to the 10th Precinct Station house for processing. He’s a male Hispanic, 51 years old. He appears to be undomiciled. He has eight prior arrests, the last being for grand larceny, October of this year,” Kenny further said. 

“I want to thank that New Yorker who saw something, who did something. And because of that, I believe, and because of the quick actions of Officer Garvey, we have saved the lives of other New Yorkers who could have been the victim of this assault,” Eric told Reuters.
