Wegmans fans, rejoice: DoorDash now delivers groceries from the ‘cult-favorite’ store

Syracuse, N.Y. — Shopping is about to get more convenient for fans of Upstate New York’s favorite grocery store.

As of this week, DoorDash will deliver groceries from Wegmans on demand to customers in six East Coast states. The delivery service started with stores in Maryland and is expected to be available at stores in Upstate New York, Virginia, North Carolina, New Jersey and Delaware “in the coming days,” DoorDash announced Tuesday.

The announcement marks an expansion of Wegmans’ partnership with DoorDash, which already delivers subs, pizza, desserts and more as part of Wegmans Meals 2Go.

“Our goal is to make meals easy and help our customers live healthier, better lives through exceptional food,” said Erica Tickle, Wegmans’ vice president of marketing and digital growth. “Expanding our delivery network is just one way we’re able to continue delivering on that mission.”

While DoorDash grocery deliveries are new for Wegmans, on-demand home deliveries are not. Instacart started partnering with Wegmans for same-day deliveries Upstate in 2017.

Founded in Rochester in 1916, Wegmans is arguably Upstate’s most beloved grocery store chain. Some of Wegmans’ biggest fans have even gotten black-metal-themed Wegmans tattoos inked on themselves to show their love for the store.

In a news release announcing the partnership, DoorDash officials praised the “cult-favorite grocer.”

“Wegmans offers quality foods and a top-notch grocery store experience,” said Fuad Hannon, DoorDash’s vice president of new verticals at DoorDash. “We’re proud to help extend their brand to the DoorDash Marketplace, and provide the tools and technology to serve customers in a new way.”

DoorDash launched its on-demand grocery delivery service in 2020 as the world grappled with the coronavirus pandemic. Although social distancing and stay-at-home orders have been left behind with the worst of the pandemic, Americans are still happy to have groceries dropped off at their front doors.

To commemorate the new partnership, DoorDash is offering Wegmans customers a chance to get 40% off orders of $50 or more through Halloween with the promo code “WEGMANS”. (See more details here.)
